Danielle Brown, who made three NCAA Elite Eight appearances as a player at Kean and has spent the last eight years coaching, joined the Yale women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2018. In her second season, she helped the Bulldogs tie the school wins record (19).

Brown spent the 2017-18 season on the Rutgers-Newark staff, where she helped the Scarlet Raiders finished first in offensive rebounding, third in scoring defense and fifth in steals in NJAC play. She also helped develop an All-NJAC selection who ranked second in the league in steals (13th nationally), fifth in scoring and fifth in assists.

Brown was the head coach at Rahway High School in New Jersey from 2011-17, leading her team to the quarterfinals of the county tournament and the semifinals of the state tournament sectional -- the team’s deepest postseason run since 2001. Under her leadership the team made six straight state tournament appearances, and won a conference title in 2015-16. Brown also established fundraisers and a community service project each season and coordinated a clinic for local youths.

Brown played forward at Kean, where she helped the Cougars to four NCAA DIII Tournament appearances (advancing to the Elite Eight three times) and three NJAC titles. She served as team captain and won the team’s unsung hero award in 2009-10, a year after earning the team’s most improved player award. An All-NJAC selection, Brown helped the team go 106-18 over the course of her career. She graduated cum laude in 2010 with a degree in health/physical education.

Brown also served as an assistant coach with the Bishop Ahr High School track program in Edison, N.J., from 2010-2017 and was an assistant for the KJ Basketball 15U AAU program starting in the summer of 2016. In 2010-11 she was an assistant coach at Franklin High School in Somerset, N.J., and helped develop the school’s all-time leader in scoring, rebounding and steals.

A native of New Brunswick, N.J., Brown attended St. Peter’s High School.
