Erica Covile

Erica Covile, a 1,000 point scorer for Temple with extensive overseas playing experience, joined the Yale women’s basketball staff as director of operations in June of 2022. Covile was the second hire for Dalila Eshe, who was hired as Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Basketball earlier in the year.

Covile helped Yale to several notable accomplishments in 2022-23. The Bulldogs had the Ivy League Co-Defensive Player of the Year (Nyla McGill) and a top 10 finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award as the best point guard in the country (Jenna Clark). The Bulldogs also had a five-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week honoree (Kiley Capstraw) and three CSC Academic All-District selections (Clark, Klara Astrom, Brenna McDonald and Haley Sabol). The season was highlighted by a 71-70 overtime win at Harvard on Jan. 7, 2023 -- the Bulldogs' first road win vs. the Crimson since 2012.

Covile spent the 2021-22 season as an assistant coach at Bryn Athyn (Pa.) College, helping the Lions make their first playoff appearance since 2016-17. They fell in the quarterfinals of the Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

Prior to starting her coaching career Covile played professionally overseas for five years. She spent the 2020-21 campaign with Satu Mare in Romania, averaging nearly 10 points per game. She has also played in Australia, Belgium and Spain.

Covile is a 2016 graduate of Temple, where she was third team American Athletic Conference and second team Philadelphia Big 5 in 2015. She helped the team to a pair of 20 win seasons and WNIT appearances, advancing all the way to the WNIT Final Four in 2014-15. On Feb. 6, 2016, her putback with one second left led the Owls to a 68-66 win vs. No. 19/17 USF – Temple’s first win vs. a ranked opponent since 2009. A guard, she ranks ninth in rebounds and 21st in points all-time at Temple. She finished her career with 1,076 points.

Covile is a native of Detroit, Mich. She has three brothers who played college basketball, and her father, the late Lewis Covile, was a basketball coach.
