Sarah Nguyen, M.D. is a board certified psychiatrist and has been the volunteer assistant coach for the Yale Women’s Golf Team since 2016.  

She grew up Irvine, Calif., and was a swimmer and competitive tennis player before rock climbing, hiking, and backpacking during medical school.  She is now an avid runner, cyclist, golfer, and outdoor enthusiast who has completed several half marathons and long distance cycling events, including an Ironman Triathlon Relay.  

Dr. Nguyen received both a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, Irvine, in 2006 and 2012, respectively.  She completed her adult psychiatry residency in New York with additional fellowship training at the Yale University School of Medicine.  Her professional interests include the interface between medicine and psychiatry, integrative behavioral health models, medical education, systems-based practices, and sports psychology with an emphasis on motivation, mindset, and performance anxiety and management.  

She is trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness and often uses a combination of these techniques in her practice.  Dr. Nguyen has pursued a career in academia in large measure because of her passion for teaching, training, and mentorship. She especially loves nudging players out of their comfort zone to reach their full potential, both on and off the golf course.
