Alyssa Murray, a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team and a two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist, joined the Yale women’s lacrosse staff in the summer of 2015.
Murray, who worked as an assistant coach at Michigan in the spring of 2015 after serving as a volunteer assistant at Stony Brook in the fall of 2014, brings an impressive list of accomplishments to her role with the Bulldogs. A 2014 Syracuse graduate, she helped the Orange to a 68-19 record, three NCAA Tournament appearances and two NCAA Championship game appearances in her four seasons. She ended her career ranked eighth all-time in NCAA Division I scoring with 362 points. In June of 2014 she was one of 38 players selected to the 2014-15 US Women’s National Team.
An attacker, Murray was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as a junior and a senior at Syracuse. She was also a three-time first team All-American and was a finalist for the Honda Award. She captained the team as a senior, scoring 65 goals and adding 45 assists to finish with the fourth-best single season point total in Syracuse history. That helped her earn Syracuse Female Athlete of the Year and Inside Lacrosse Co-Attacker of the Year honors.
In her junior season, when she scored 64 goals and had 40 assists, Murray was named Big East Attack Player of the Year. As a sophomore she led the nation in goals (74) and points (105).
In addition to her coaching stints at Michigan and Stony Brook, where she worked primarily with the attackers and midfielders, for the past year Murray has also worked as communications coordinator for the Lacrosse for Love Tournament. That tournament honors former Virginia women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love and benefits the One Love Foundation, which seeks to end relationship violence by engaging young people in a movement for change.
Murray, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in child and family studies at Syracuse, was the 2014 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was named to the Dean’s List from spring 2011 to spring 2014, the Big East All-Academic Team from spring 2011 to spring 2013, and the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll from spring 2011 to fall 2014.
A native of West Babylon, N.Y., Murray is a 2010 West Babylon High School graduate. From 2010 through 2014 she served as a coach and skill instructor for the Long Island Yellow Jackets. Last year she started Alyssa Murray Lax, Inc., to conduct clinics and camps.
