Sloane Serpe

Sloane Serpe, a US Women’s National Team member and an All-American defender who helped North Carolina win the 2013 NCAA Championship, joined the Yale women’s lacrosse staff as an assistant coach in August of 2015. 

In addition to earning a spot on the US National Team in 2014 and 2015, Serpe spent the 2015 season as an assistant at High Point and helped the Panthers advance to the Big South tournament semifinals. Serpe was in charge of the defensive unit and the goalkeepers in addition to serving as recruiting coordinator. Her previous coaching experience also includes stints with Jersey Dogs Lacrosse and UNC Camp.

Serpe graduated from UNC with a B.A. in communication studies in 2014. While playing for the Tar Heels she was a part of four NCAA Tournament appearances. In addition to winning the NCAA title in 2013, UNC advanced to the semifinals in 2011 and the quarterfinals in 2012 and 2014.

Serpe, who set UNC's career record for games started, was a three-time IWLCA All-American (first team as a junior and senior, second team as a sophomore), a three-time first team All-ACC selection and a two-time team captain. As a senior, when she had 40 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, she was nominated for the Tewaaraton Award and earned Academic All-America honors. She finished her career with 110 ground balls, 57 caused turnovers and 52 draw controls.

Serpe also participated in North Carolina’s Dick Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy, taking part in the Rising Stars program in 2011-12 and the Veteran Leaders program in 2013-14. As a freshman in 2010-11 she was a part of UNC’s CREED (Culture, Respect, Excellence, Excel, Develop) program.

Serpe is a native of North Caldwell, N.J., and graduated from West Essex Regional High School.
