Before Yale: Sturgillwas an honorable mention US Lacrosse high school All-American and atwo-time all-county and honorable mention All-Met selection atCentennial, where she received the Coaches Award and was voted themost athletic female. She captained the lacrosse and basketballteams. Sturgill was an Academic All-American, was on theprincipal''s honor roll for four years, and is a member of theNational Honor Society. She played against her Yale teammates JennaBlock and Natalie Reid in the 2005 Vail Lacrosse Shootout U-19Girls finals. Sturgill''s Maryland & District of Columbia teamtopped Block and Reid''s Rome team 10-9 in overtime.
