Bill Healy

Bill Healy joined the Yale Sailing Program as an assistant coach in 2003 and has helped the Bulldogs win 15 national championships. He was later promoted as the Stuart McNay Associate Head Coach.

In the spring of 2015, Healy helped lead the Bulldogs to an historic sweep of the Women's National Championships that included the Co-ed Dinghy National Championship, the National Team Racing Championship and the Fowle Trophy for overall team of the year. During his tenure as Associate Head Coach, the Yale sailing team has produced over 120 All-American sailors since 2004.

Healy earned All-America honors as a collegiate sailor in 1991, 1992 and 1993.  After graduating St. Mary’s College of Maryland, he became the Varsity Dinghy Coach for the US Coast Guard Academy from 1996-2000.  He also coached numerous US Youth Championships and a Youth World Championship.

After a short stint outside the coaching world, he came to New Haven. Healy is still an accomplished sailor, having won just about every major U.S. International 420 regatta, which makes him a perfect match for the fleet of Yale 420s. He was a 1994 member of the US Sailing 470 Team and is National, North American and Mid-Winter champions in five different sailing classes.

In 2017, Healy was awarded the Sail1Design Coach of the Year Award for being the best one design dinghy coach. He was given nine lengthy and heart-felt nominations from sailors he has coached over the years.

Healy and his wife have four daughters.
