Yale

Carlos Pinela joined the athletic department in 1994, and currently serves as an assistant athletic director in the facilities and operations department. In his role, he has oversight as the director of aquatics, and manages the practice and competition schedules for Payne Whitney Gymnasium venues. 

During his time with Yale, Pinela oversaw a popular children’s camp aimed at developing interests in various athletic activities while showcasing the world-famous gym, Yale’s athletic fields and the Outdoor Education Center.

Pinela, a Hamden, Conn., resident, was an avid intramural tackle and razzle-dazzle football player during his undergraduate years at Yale (class of 1982). The 1978 Cathedral High School (Los Angeles, Calif.) graduate, played football, basketball and ran track for the Phantoms.

He and his wife, Christine Missakian, have three children, Sona (UCONN ’20), Simòn (Villanova ’21) and Natalie (Yale ’22).
