Carlton Hall

Carlton Hall, a former linebacker at Vanderbilt who has coachedat two Ivy League schools, joined Yale in July of 2014 as assistanthead coach responsible for the defensive linemen.

Hall, a three-year starter and 1997 All-SEC pick for theCommodores who signed as a free agent with the San Diego Chargersin 1998, has coached at six different schools since playing underVandy head coaches Gerry Dinardo and Woody Widenhofer.

His 2013 work as the defensive line coach at the University ofWest Alabama led to a conference championship, a year after helpingthe University of Houston win the Conference USA West Division andthe 2012 Ticket City Bowl. Hall, whose defensive charges ranked10th in Division I in sacks per game, was a two-yearCougars assistant.

Prior to Houston, he worked with Tony Reno at Harvard from 2007to 2010, helping the Crimson win a pair of league titles whileleading defensive lineman to 14 All-Ivy League honors, includingcurrent Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Desmond Bryant.

Hall, who was coaching at Elon University before coming to NewHaven, was the defensive line coach at Georgetown in 2006.

His first coaching job was at Columbia from 2003 to 2005,working with receivers, defensive linemen and linebackers overthree seasons. While working with the receivers in 2003, the Lionswere one of just two schools to have three players with 50 or morecatches.

Hall is a Midwest City, Okla., native who earned a bachelor ofscience degree from Vanderbilt in 1998. As a senior in 1997, he ledthe Commodores with 83 solo tackles, 129 total tackles and 11tackles for loss.
