Derrick Seldon

Derrick Seldon joined the Yale men's basketball staff in May 2025 as Director of Operations. 

Seldon comes to Yale following four seasons as an Assistant Coach at the University of New Haven. At New Haven, he worked primarily with centers and forwards, focusing on performance monitoring and skill development. His responsibilities also included creating scouting reports, overseeing recruiting efforts and community service activities, and managing team travel and budget operations. During his tenure with the Chargers, the team achieved significant success, including an NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearance and capturing the East Region Championship in 2023.

Prior to his time at New Haven, Seldon was an Assistant Coach at Western Connecticut State University from 2016 to 2018. His responsibilities included coaching guards and wings, analyzing in-game performance metrics, and guiding individual skill development. He also played a key role in fostering academic achievement and producing detailed scouting reports. During his time with the program, the team reached its first Little East Conference Final Four appearance in three years.
 
A graduate of Western Connecticut, Seldon was a two-year starter for the Colonials after transferring from Susquehanna University. In his two seasons at WCSU, Seldon averaged over seven points per game and served as a captain for the Colonials in his senior campaign, 2014-15. Off the court, Seldon was a standout in the classroom, earning Male Scholar Athlete of the Year honors and was a nominee for the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Team.
