Dr. Stephanie Schmidt, MD

Dr. Stephanie Schmidt is board certified primary care sports medicine physician who joined the department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation as an assistant professor at Yale University School of Medicine in August 2024. At that same time, she began her role as Head Primary Care Physician for Yale Athletics.

Dr. Schmidt is a Connecticut native, growing up in North Branford. She graduated from Boston University in 2009 with a BA in biochemistry and molecular biology. She graduated from New York Medical College in 2014 with aspirations of pursuing sports medicine as a subspecialty, and completed her family medicine residency at the University of Connecticut. During her residency, she had the opportunity to rotate through the sports medicine department at UConn, which led to her becoming particularly interested in working with collegiate athletes. Following residency, she completed her primary care sports medicine fellowship at Christiana Care in Delaware, during which time she worked with the student athletes at the University of Delaware.

After moving back to Connecticut, Dr. Schmidt worked as a primary care sports medicine physician in Middletown. During that time, she was a team physician for Wesleyan University. She joined Yale University in February 2023, initially working in Student Health before transitioning into her current role.

Outside of work, Dr. Schmidt enjoys hiking, cycling, and spending time with her family.
