Lalo Ugalde 2025

Eduardo Ugalde

Eduardo Ugalde joined Chris Drake’s staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2021, and was named Interim Head Coach in May 2025.

Serving as interim coach during the 2025–26 season, the Bulldogs put together a historic campaign that culminated in Yale earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament — the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1977. Yale recorded 16 wins, its highest total since the 2016–17 season, and finished the year ranked No. 45 nationally. Under Ugalde’s leadership, Vignesh Gogineni ended the season ranked No. 25 in the country in singles and, during the fall, made a consecutive appearance at the NCAA Individual Championship. Additionally, Gogineni earned First Team All-Ivy honors, while he and Edward Liao were named First Team All-Ivy in doubles. Liao also received Second Team All-Ivy recognition.

Ugalde spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Duke, helping the Blue Devils advance to the NCAA Tournament, conclude the 2021 season ranked No. 36 in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll and seeing their top doubles team advance to the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Ugalde also served on the staff at the University of Alabama in 2018-19 where he helped the Crimson Tide win 16 matches and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

In addition, Ugalde has experience as the head coach for both the men's and women's tennis teams at the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.

While gaining a master's degree in sports management, Ugalde was a graduate assistant coach for both the men and women's tennis teams at Jacksonville State from 2017-2018. During his time with the Gamecocks, he saw both programs achieve their highest rankings in school history in 2018.

Ugalde graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College in December 2016 with a degree in business administration and minor in accounting. A four-year letterwinner at Wesleyan, Ugalde helped his team to four USA South Conference Championships and four NCAA Team National appearances.
