Eric Schutter joined the Yale Athletics staff in January of 2026. He oversees the daily operations and recreational spaces of Payne Whitney Gym and the graduate intramural program.
Prior to joining the Yale staff, Schutter worked as a coordinator of special events in The Ohio State University's recreational sports department starting in July of 2022. He assisted in the organization and execution of more than 600 events in the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC); coordinated logistics between external vendors and event clients; managed building and event operations for 500+ person banquets, TV productions, and club tournaments; communicated event and staff needs between internal department areas; and oversaw the hiring, training and development of 20-25 student staff members.
Schutter also spent two years (2020-22) as an indoor satellite facilities graduate assistant in The Ohio State University's recreational sports department. He oversaw three recreation facilities on a 1,665-acre campus, guided the hiring and training process of new student employees, conducted 1-on-1 developmental sessions with 40+ student leaders and constructed and maintained the layout of 100+ pieces of equipment.
Schutter spent the 2019-20 academic year as an intern of operations and events with the University of South Carolina's campus recreation department. He facilitated the setup, operation, and teardown of all events in the Wellness & Fitness Center and the Physical Education Center. He also designed a new incentive program and event scheduling system for 90+ student employees.
Schutter received his B.S. in sport management with a minor in business administration from Dayton and his M.A. in higher education and student affairs from The Ohio State University.
A Cincinnati, Ohio, native, Schutter lives in Shelton, Conn., with his wife and their two cats, Nova and Lilly.
