John Coughlin

John Coughlin joined the Yale staff in a part-time role inJanuary 2010. His responsibilities include but are not limited toplayer career & professional development, alumni relations andcommunity outreach programs. 

Coughlin works full-time as an emerging markets credit trader atBTG Pactual in Manhattan. His experience in finance, businessrecruiting and hiring provides Yale players with unique expertisein their professional development. 

Coughlin, who started and ran a career & professionaldevelopment program for his alma mater, Columbia, for 12 years, wasraised in nearby Ansonia.  An economics major, he was athree-year starter for the Lions who graduated in 1993 with a spoton the Academic All-Ivy team.

He has enjoyed a successful 15-plus year career on Wall Streetas a trader/ portfolio manager specializing in the emergingmarkets. Prior to joining Yale, Coughlin was also the strength& conditioning coach as well as an assistant football coach atAnsonia High School. 

He spends much of his free time mentoring youth. Coughlin isfounder of the Connecticut Speed School, LLC, and sits on theadvisory board of the Joel E. Smilow Boys & Girls Clubhouse inAnsonia.  He and his wife, Kathy, and their children, Jack,Patrick and Kaitlyn, reside in Orange.
