Mandy McCarthy joined the Yale softball staff prior to the 2019–20 season as a volunteer coach while completing her Ph.D. in Psychology at Yale.

A standout student-athlete at Holy Cross, McCarthy was named to the NFCA All-Region Third Team in 2017. She earned Patriot League All-Academic honors as both a junior and senior and served as the Patriot League representative at the NCAA National SAAC Conference — the first Holy Cross student-athlete to attend.

McCarthy earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in 2018. She later completed both a Master of Science and a Master of Philosophy in Cognitive Developmental Psychology at Yale, earning her Ph.D. in the same field in 2024.
