Michael Finnegan

Michael Finnegan joined the Yale men’s hockey staff as the Director of Hockey Operations ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Prior to arriving in New Haven, Finnegan served as the Assistant Director of Hockey Operations at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), joining the staff in December 2025.

Finnegan previously spent more than four years across two stints as the Director of Hockey Operations at American International College (AIC), serving from 2018-21 and 2024-25. Between those appointments, he served as the Video Coordinator for the University of Connecticut men’s ice hockey program from 2021-24, helping the Huskies compile a 55-47-5 record. In his first season, UConn defeated then-No. 16 Boston University and then-No. 10 Northeastern to advance to its first Hockey East championship game.

Finnegan’s first three seasons at AIC were among the most successful in program history. The Yellow Jackets compiled a 59-33-2 overall record during that span, including a 50-16-2-1-0-0 mark in Atlantic Hockey play. In 2019, AIC captured its first Atlantic Hockey regular-season title and its first Jack Riley Memorial Trophy before defeating then-No. 1 St. Cloud State in its NCAA Tournament debut.

During those three seasons, AIC earned 15 Atlantic Hockey All-Conference selections, including seven first-team honors. Blake Christensen and Brennan Kapcheck became the program’s first two AHCA All-Americans, and Kapcheck also became AIC’s first Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year.
