Michael Mordocco joined the Yale men's soccer staff in June 2026 as an assistant coach.
Prior to Yale, Mordocco served as the head coach of the Long Island University men's soccer program in 2026. Since taking the program in 2018, Mordocco established LIU as one of the premier programs in the Northeast, guiding the Sharks through their transition from Division II to Division I while leading the team to four conference tournament championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Under Mordocco's leadership, LIU captured Northeast Conference Tournament titles in 2021, 2023 and 2024, along with the East Coast Conference regular season and tournament championships in 2018. His teams earned eight conference tournament appearances and have enjoyed success on the national stage, highlighted by an NCAA Tournament victory over Maryland in 2021 and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2023 and 2024.
Mordocco built a championship culture centered on player development, competitive excellence and academic accountability. He established the program's Division I recruiting infrastructure, developed domestic and international recruiting pipelines and integrated advanced performance analytics and video platforms into the program's daily operations. His commitment to player development has helped numerous student-athletes advance to professional opportunities in Major League Soccer and international leagues.
Before his tenure at LIU, Mordocco spent four seasons as the associate head coach at Massachusetts from 2014-18. During his tenure, the Minutemen won the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship and earned an NCAA Tournament berth while producing an All-American student-athlete.
Prior to joining Massachusetts, Mordocco served as an assistant coach at Connecticut from 2011-14 under Hall of Fame head coach Ray Reid. During his time with the Huskies, Connecticut advanced to three NCAA Quarterfinals, captured multiple conference championships and produced 12 MLS Draft selections, including two No. 1 overall picks.
Mordocco also spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Stony Brook from 2007-11, helping lead the Seawolves to the 2009 America East Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. He began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at SUNY Oneonta from 2004-07.
Throughout his coaching career, Mordocco has been part of 12 conference championship teams and 15 NCAA Tournament appearances.
As a student-athlete at Connecticut, Mordocco was a member of the Huskies' 2000 NCAA National Championship team. He helped UConn reach the College Cup twice, advance to three NCAA Quarterfinals and make five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances while winning multiple Big East championships.
Mordocco earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Connecticut. He holds United States Soccer Federation National C, National Youth and Advanced Goalkeeping licenses.
