Paul Nemetz-Carlson

Paul Nemetz-Carlson, who helped revitalize the Yale program asan assistant coach in 2002-03 before spending five seasons as headcoach at Elmira, returned to the Yale bench as an assistant coachfor the 2008-09 season.

Nemetz-Carlson was on the Yale staff for the 2002-03 season,when the Bulldogs broke the school record for conference wins. Thatyear he helped recruit Yale's Class of 2007, which eventuallygraduated with more wins than any class in school history (54).

Nemetz-Carlson then took over the Elmira program. He was afinalist for the AHCA Women's Ice Hockey Division III Coach of theYear award after leading the Soaring Eagles to a 23-6-1 recordand third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship. Thatwas the fourth NCAA tournament appearances for Elmira underNemetz-Carlson's leadership, including an appearance in the NCAADivision III Championship game in 2004-05. Nemetz-Carlson's overallcoaching record was 102-32-6 (.750), and he was 53-10-3 (.826) inECAC West play. His team set the NCAA Division III record for powerplay goals in a season (53) in 2006-07. He also served as thewomen's golf coach at Elmira.

Prior to his first stint at Yale, Nemetz-Carlson was therecruiting coordinator and assistant coach at QuinnipiacUniversity. A native of Williamstown, Mass., he graduated fromBates in 1998 with a degree in Latin American Studies and wascaptain of the ice hockey team. He then spent three years teachingand coaching at Hebron Academy in Hebron, Maine. InNemetz-Carlson's three years with the Hebron girls' ice hockeyprogram, the team went 49-8-3. That included the 2000 Division IINew England Prep School Girls Ice Hockey Association Championship.Nemetz-Carlson was named Hockey Night in Boston's New EnglandWomen's Prep-Private Division II Coach of the Year that season.While teaching middle and upper school history, he also served asthe head varsity baseball and head varsity boys' soccer coach.
