Ryan Moehnke joined the Yale staff in the fall of 2003 andquickly turned the diving program into one of the best in the IvyLeague. In 2005, he coached Melanie Loftus '05 to the Women'sNCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and in 2008 he coached JeffLichtenstein '08 to the Men's NCAA Swimming and DivingChampionships. Loftus was also the Ivy League Champion on 3-meterin 2005. Moehnke coached Lichtenstein to a 3-meter Championship atthe EISL's in 2007 and a 1-meter Championship in 2008. In2010, Rachel Rosenberg ’12 won the 3-meter title at the IvyLeague Championships. Loftus, Lichtenstein and Rosenberg wereall named Divers of Meet for their performances. Lichtenstein wasalso named to the 2008 Division I Mid-Major All-America firstteam for his performances. Moehnke is also responsible forLoftus' 3-meter Yale record and Lichtenstein's 1-meter and 3-meterYale records. He has also produced 27 Ivy League finalists,and 25 of his divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone DivingChampionships.
Moehnke is also the Head Coach for the Next GenerationDiving Team which trains out of Yale and the YMCA of Norwalk. In2008, the Next Generation Diving Team won the combined team titleand the men’s team title at the YMCA DivingChampionships. In 2009, the women’s team claimed theteam title at the YMCA Diving Championships. In2010, Moehnke was awarded the Robert “Moose” MossAward at the YMCA Nationals Diving Championships, which is givenevery year to a coach, athlete or volunteer that represent thequalities of the core values of the YMCA. The Next GenerationDiving Team has had three U.S. Diving Junior Nationalqualifiers, five U.S. Diving East Junior NationalQualifiers, two AAU National Champions, 24 AAU NationalQualifiers with 11 finalists, and five YMCA National Champions-- all under the direction of Moehnke.
Prior to arriving at Yale, Moehnke was the Head DivingCoach at the Schroeder YMCA in Brown Deer, Wisc., and coached atthe University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Hecoached five YMCA National Champions, seven U.S. DivingNational qualifiers and three finalists while inMilwaukee.
Moehnke started his coaching career as the Head AssistantCoach, under John Wingfield, at the U.S. Diving Training Center inIndianapolis, Ind. His accomplishments in Indianapolisincluded five Senior National Qualifiers, 11 Junior NationalQualifiers and eight Junior National Finalists. Hehelped coach Phil Jones to a Gold medal and a Bronze medal at the2000 Junior World Championships in Calgary,Canada. Moehnke also helped coach three SeniorNational Champions and a 2000 U.S. Olympic TrialsQualifier. He was also responsible for the developmentof 2008 U.S. Olympians Thomas Finchum and David Boudia.
Moehnke co-authored the USA Diving's S.T.A.R.T. Program forcoaches. In 2003, he was selected to chaperone the USA DivingJunior Pan Am Team in Belem, Brazil. He has also served as a coachfor the Junior National Team Camp six times.
Moehnke has a B.S. degree in the General Studies ofCounseling Psychology from Ball State University, where he also wasa member of the diving team.
