Sue Tingley joined the Yale field hockey staff as a volunteer assistant in the fall of 2014.
Tingley brings extensive international experience to her role. Born in St. John, New Brunswick, she earned more than 100 international caps playing for the Canadian Women’s National Team. She was named Most Valuable Player at the 1997 Junior World Cup Qualifier in Chile, where Canada finished in second place.
Tingley also played for Canada at the 1997 Junior World Cup in Korea, the 1997 World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe, the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia, the 1999 Pan American Games in Canada, the 2001 Americas Cup in Jamaica, the 2001 World Cup qualifier in France and the 2002 Commonwealth Games in England.
A midfielder, Tingley played collegiately for the University of Alberta. She competed in three national championships and was named the University of Alberta’s female athlete of the year in 2000. In 2002 she played for Push in the Dutch league Hoofdklasse.
Tingley, a doctor, has a B.S. in kinesiology from Alberta (2001) and an M.S. in kinesiology from the University of British Columbia (2005). She received an undergraduate medical degree from Dalhousie University in 2011, and did a family medicine residency at Dalhousie from 2011 to 2013. She currently works at Physician One Urgent Care, primarily out of Groton, Conn.
