William Boyce has just been named the newAssistant Coach for the Yale Men’s Heavyweight CrewProgram.  Boyce, a2008 graduate of Cornell University, was most recently the secondassistant coach with the heavyweights at Cornell, and acted as thelightweight intern at Cornell in 2009.

Boyce is a two-time Eastern Sprints Championand National Champion, having competed with the CornellLightweights from 2005 through 2008.  “I am very excited aboutWilliam for his tremendous achievements as an athlete as well ashis swift rise as a coach and leader,” Pescatore said.  “William has anintense competitive spirit, genuine enthusiasm for coaching, andgreat leadership and motivational qualities. I am proud to add himto our coaching staff, and I am confident he will be a drivingforce in our efforts to promote the traditions of excellence atYale.”  

 

At Cornell, Boyce rowed the 6-seat of theLightweight Varsity Eight as a senior and won both the EasternSprints (by near open water) and the IRA National Championship,with a stunning come from behind victory in the last 500meters.  Boyce went onto row in the Temple Cup of the prestigious Royal Henley Regatta inEngland and progressed to the quarterfinals.  Boyce was named to theFirst-Team All-Ivy in 2008 and won the highly coveted CaptainsAward at Cornell for “outstanding performance by an oarsmanas selected by the captain.”  Boyce was a three-year varsityletter winner.  As asophomore in the Lightweight JV, he captured Gold at EasternSprints, and his junior year won Silver in a race so close it wasuncertain for several minutes who had won.  Boyce walked on toCornell’s lightweight team as a freshman after rowing foronly a season and a half in high school.  

 

Before arriving at Cornell, Boyce rowed forthe Mercer Junior Rowing Club in New Jersey.  He began rowing in the spring ofhis junior year and was elected captain as a senior.  Boyce was also captain of hishigh school swim team.  He stroked the HeavyweightVarsity Eight to Mercer’s first appearance at the USRowingYouth National Championships where they were grand finalists. 

 

Boyce has also worked as a coach at West SideRowing Club’s High Performance Junior Camp as well asCascadilla Boat Club as an instructor for their adult learn-to-rowprogram.

Boyce enjoys hiking, swimming and filmmaking.He has worked as a film editor and cameraman.
