Wayne Dean, who arrived at Yale in 1986, serves as the Deputy Director of Athletics. He also serves as the Sport Administrator for Men’s and Women’s Hockey and Golf as well as overseeing Ingalls Rink and the Course at Yale.
During his time at Yale he has worn many hats. This includes duties in Varsity Sports Administration, Ticket Operations, Marketing and Promotions and Contest Management. He has also represented Yale on many league and national committees. The NCAA in August of 2018 announced that he will serve as the Chair of the Men's and Women's Hockey Rules Committee for two years.
Dean has had a great deal of NCAA and ECAC experience while at Yale. He was a member of the NCAA Men’s Hockey Championship Committee from 2001 – 2005, chairing the group during the 2004–05 season. He has also served as the Co-Director of the NCAA Regional Championships hosted by Yale and Fairfield University at the Webster Bank Arena in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018. During the 2014 Men's Frozen Four, held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, he served on the Tournament Organizing Committee. In addition, he served as the Tournament Co-Director for the 2004 Women's Frozen Four hosted by Yale in Providence as well as the NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals hosted by Yale in 2004, 2010 and 2015. He also serves on the Board of Directors for College Hockey Inc. and the ECAC and is an ECAC Past President.
Prior to his arrival at Yale Dean served as an Assistant Baseball Coach at Springfield College and as an Assistant Baseball Coach and Administrator at the University of Connecticut while engaged in graduate studies at both institutions. He also served as the Head Baseball and Soccer Coach at Mitchell College in New London. Conn.
Dean is a 1977 graduate of Lyndon State College and is a member of its Athletics Hall of Fame. Dean has an MS and CAS from Springfield. He and his wife Betsy live in Westbrook. They have three children, Amy (Springfield College), Matt (Quinnipiac University) and Jake (Cornell University).
