Ithaca, N.Y. - Cornell broke open a scoreless game with five second-period goals as the No. 12 ranked Big Red skated to a 6-2 win over Yale in men's ECAC hockey at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Big Red (6-2-2, 3-1-1 ECACHL) outshot the Bulldogs 39-24 and had goals from six different players. Left wing Mike Knoepfli led the home team with a goal and two assists, all of which came in the middle frame.

Cornell took advantage of two power-play chances in the second period as they broke the game open with six scores during a nine-minute span starting at 8:55.

Matt Modelski, who played the first two periods and made 25 saves, stopped all 11 shots in the first frame and was looking much like he did in the 7-1 win over Princeton on Nov. 27 until the walls caved in at a very difficult rink for visitors.

Josh Gartner replaced Modelski for the last 20 minutes and stopped eight of nine shots in his first action since Nov. 20.

The Bulldogs (1-10, 1-8) tallied twice in the third period with Brad Mills and Blair Yaworski - the third goal of the year for both - lighting the lamp on assists from defenseman Matt Cohen (first career point), Joe Zappala and captain Nick Shalek. The Mills goal came with a man-advantage, Yale's only power-play score of the night.

Cornell goalie Dave McKee needed 22 saves to pick up his sixth win in goal.
