Box Score

Katie Sargent scored five goals and added an assist as the Elis held Boston University off from a number of runs to defeat the Terriers 12-7 in Boston. Miles Whitman added 2 goals and five assists in the victory, while Sophie Melniker and Sarah Driscoll rounded out scoring with 3 and 2 goals apiece.

Driscoll opened scoring shortly into the first half on a feed from Whitman, and Sargent scored her first of the game to give the Elis a 2-0 lead. But a three-goal run by the Terriers gave BU a 1-goal lead until the Bulldogs responded with a streak of their own, netting five unanswered goals to go up 7-3 with 8:57 to play in the first half.

The Bulldogs gave up two late goals in the first half, with BU's Danica Strutt scoring on a free position and Sasha Lang beating Yale goalie Lonnie Sarnell with a minute and a half to play before halftime.

Yale outshot BU 16-11 in the first half, but would dominate scoring opportunities in the second half, outshooting the Terriers 16-5.

The Terriers narrowed Yale's lead to a goal less than three minutes into the second half, but Sargent responded off a pass from Whitman to bring the Bulldogs back up 8-6. Again, BU made it a 1-goal game before Sargent once again ensured that it would not be, connecting with Whitman once more for the 9-7 lead with 16:26 to play.

From there, Sargent, Melniker, and Whitman all beat goalie Anne Sheridan for insurance goals to earn the 12-7 victory, improving their overall record to 4-2. The Terriers fell to 2-3 on the season.

Sarnell stopped 5 shots for the Elis, while BU's Sheridan made 13 saves. Defensively, Driscoll and Kira Licata each caused three BU turnovers, leading the team in that category.

The Elis travel to Dartmouth this weekend for their second Ivy League game. Yale defeated Penn 14-7 in their league opener. The Bulldogs' next home game comes Wednesday, March 31st against Fairfield.
