Joe Federoff scored a short-handed goal midway through the third period to break a scoreless tie and lift Alabama-Huntville to 1-0 win over Yale on Friday night at Ingalls Rink.

Federoff took a pass from Brennan Barker and scored on a breakaway at the 9:41 mark. Cameron Talbot preserved the win with 33 saves for his first shutout of the season.

Yale (4-2) held a 33-16 shot advantage in the contest, and had its best chance to score with 45 seconds left. Denny Kearney, who was stationed behind the net, fed Kevin Peel who skated in on the left side. Peel deflected the pass into Talbot, who gave up a rebound that was deflected away after a scramble in front of the net.

"I thought we played hard," Yale head coach Keith Allain said. "And I thought we played well enough to win."

Ryan Rondeau made 15 saves for Yale. Rondeau made perhaps his best save of the night off a shot from Matt Baxter with 11:55 left in regulation.

Both teams went 0-for-5 on the power play.

Yale returns to action tomorrow to face Alabama-Huntsville at Ingalls Rink. Faceoff time is set for 7 p.m.
