NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Two
Yale singles players advanced to the semifinals of the singles
draw, and two Yale doubles teams advanced to the finals of the
doubles draw Saturday at the Connecticut State Championships at the
Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale University.
In singles play, freshman Daniel Hoffman won
two more matches Saturday to advance to the semifinals. In the round of 16, Hoffman
cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Fairfield's Erik
Kremheller. Hoffman
then cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sacred Heart's Nick
Mazzarese.
Sophomore Erik Blumenkranz defeated
UConn's Jai Yoon in the round of 16 6-4, 6-4. Blumenkranz then advanced to the
semifinals with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Sacred Heart's Chris
Ujick.
The doubles team of senior Matt Schimmel and
junior Ryan Berman advanced to the finals of the doubles draw. They will face the duo of
Blumenkranz and Hoffman, who also advanced to the finals.
