NEW HAVEN, Conn. -
Freshman Marc Powers (Stamford, Conn.) and freshman John Huang
(Irvine, Calif.) lost first round singles matches Thursday
afternoon at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships
at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale University. Earlier in the day, the doubles
team of junior Calvin Bennett (Sandy, Utah) and sophomore Joel
Samaha (Tampa, Fla.) lost a first round match as well.
The 16 best doubles teams and 32 best singles
players in the nation competed in the tournament, and Yale held its
own.
Powers lost 6-4, 6-1 to North Carolina's
Clay Donato. Huang
dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Clint Bowles of Florida State. Powers and Huang will play
in the consolation singles draw Friday at 3:30 p.m.
The duo of Bennett and Samaha fell 8-2 to
Tennessee's Boris Conkic and Rhyne Williams. Bennett and Samaha will play in
the consolation doubles draw Friday at 9 a.m.
