Box Score 22 Saves for Snikeris
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Four different players
scored goals and nine different players had points as Princeton
beat Yale 4-0 Friday night in the first regular season game at
newly renovated Ingalls Rink. The Tigers' Cassie Seguin made 20
saves for the shutout, while Jackee Snikeris had 22 for the
Bulldogs.
Princeton (3-1-1, 2-0-1 ECAC Hockey) struck quickly, as Melanie
Wallace grabbed a loose puck in front of the net after Snikeris
went down to make a save. Wallace had an open shot and buried it
for a 1-0 lead just 2:15 into the game. The Tigers just missed
extending that lead five minutes later when Snikeris made a save on
a shot by Julie Johnson and Wallace's rebound attempt hit the post.
Two minutes later, though, Corey Stearns got the lead to 2-0 by
putting home a pass from Kelly Cooke low in the left circle.
The Bulldogs were outshot 13-5 in the first period but had one
of their best chances to get within a goal in the waning moments.
Sophomore forward Aleca Hughes grabbed a loose puck in the midst of
a scrum in front of the net and was able to get off a quick wrist
shot that went just wide with a minute to play.
Yale (0-3-1, 0-3-0 ECAC Hockey) was whistled for its only
penalty of the game five minutes into the second period. Senior
defenseman Alyssa Clarke ended that successful penalty kill by
blocking a shot and clearing the puck as time expired on the Yale
penalty.
The Bulldogs went on the power play shortly after that and had
two scoring chances, but junior forward Bray Ketchum sent a rebound
attempt wide and sophomore forward Aleca Hughes just missed a
chance to knock in a crossing pass from freshman forward Danielle
Moncion. Later in the period Ketchum had a wrister that hit the
post. Princeton then made it 3-0 with 3:30 left in the period on a
goal by Heather Landry.
Yale outshot Princeton 9-5 in the third, but the only goal was
by Johnson with 4:38 to play. The Bulldogs got a power play with
1:27 left and pulled Snikeris for a two-skater advantage, but could
not get any quality shots on Seguin.
