NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Freshman John Huang (Irvine, Calif.) pulled out a three-set victory
in the round of 16 of the consolation singles draw Friday on the
second day of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships
at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Huang advanced to the quarterfinals of the
consolation singles draw by defeating UCLA's Amit Inbar 6-4,
4-6, 6-4. Huang will
face the No. 4 seeded Jordan Rux of Baylor next.
Freshman Marc Powers (Stamford, Conn.) dropped
a 6-3, 6-4 match to Texas A&M's Austin Kraijcek
Friday.
The doubles team of junior Calvin Bennett and
sophomore Joel Samaha fell 8-1 against Illinois's
duo of Marek Czerwinski and Dennis Nevolo.
With Huang's victory and Yale's
continued impressive play at the ITA National Intercollegiate
Indoor Championships, consisting of the 16 best collegiate doubles
teams and 32 best collegiate singles players in the country, the
Bulldogs continued to hold their own against the best in the
country.
