NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
Yale complete play Saturday at the ITA National Intercollegiate
Indoor Championships at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale
University.
Freshman John Huang (Irvine, Calif.) lost to
No. 4 seed Jordan Rux of Baylor 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of
the consolation singles draw.
The loss came one day after Huang battled his
way to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over UCLA's Amit Inbar.
Huang, freshman Marc Powers, sophomore Joel
Samaha, and junior Calvin Bennett all represented Yale in the
tournament, which included the 32 best singles players and 16 best
doubles teams in the country. The Bulldogs held their own
against the nation's best and made a name for themselves in
the process.
For Yale, the tournament also served as a
chance to showcase the phenomenal Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center the
best in collegiate tennis. The Center includes eight
Decoturf II courts, with state-of-the-art lighting and superior
match viewing. The
magnificent lobby is spacious and provides comfortable lounging and
ample viewing of most of the courts. The new tennis center also
includes team locker rooms, a modern team room, and coaches'
offices.
