Connor Dawson Advances in 'A' Singles Draw
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Bulldogs completed day one at the
Farnsworth Invitational Friday in Princeton, NJ.
Senior captain Connor Dawson defeated Moshe
Levy of Binghamton in the first round of the 'A'
singles draw 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the second round where he
will face No. 3 seed Eugene Brazdil of Penn. Junior Calvin Bennett dropped
his first round match to Eddie Bourchier of Penn State 6-4, 6-3.
In the 'B' Singles draw, freshman
John Huang rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Penn's Jayson
Lin. Huang will face
Taylor Cohen of Penn State Saturday. Freshman Marc Powers dropped his
first round match to Penn State's Brian Weinetz, but he will
play in the 'B' consolation draw Saturday.
In the 'C' Singles draw, sophomore
Joel Samaha received a bye as the No. 1 seed and will face Matt
Spindler of Princeton Saturday. Sophomore Erik Blumenkranz
pulled out a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Columbia's Kevin
Kung. Blumenkranz
will play No. 3 seed Charlie Brosens of Princeton Saturday.
Freshman Daniel Hoffman, seeded No. 2 in the
'D' singles draw, received a bye and will take on
Michael Lin of Princeton Saturday. In the 'E' singles
draw, senior Matt Schimmel also received a bye and will face Jared
Karson of Cornell Saturday.
In doubles action, the No. 2 seeded team of
Bennett and Dawson lost their first round match 8-6 in the
'A' doubles draw. The doubles team of Blumenkranz
and Samaha won 8-4 in the first round before dropping an 8-6
decision to the No. 1 seeded team in the second round.
In the 'B' doubles draw, the duo
of Huang and Powers lost 9-8. The doubles team of Hoffman and
Schimmel lost 8-2 in the first round.
