Huang Advances to Finals of 'B' Singles

PRINCETON, N.J. - Yale completed day two of the
Farnsworth Invitational Saturday in Princeton, N.J.
In the 'B' Singles Draw, freshman
John Huang advanced to the finals with two victories Saturday. In the quarterfinals,
Huang rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Penn State's Taylor
Cohen. Huang then
ousted the No. 1 seed Jonathan Fife of Cornel 6-4, 6-4 in the
semifinals.
In the 'A' Singles Draw, senior
captain Connor Dawson lost his second round match to No. 3 seed
Eugen Brazdil of Penn 6-4, 6-2.
Junior Calvin Bennett advanced to the finals
of the 'A' Consolation Draw with a 6-4, 6-2 win over
Matija Pecotic of Princeton.
In the 'B' Consolation Draw,
freshman Marc Powers defeated Alex Faust of Princeton 6-4, 6-1 to
advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Powers
defeated Haig Schneiderman of Columbia 7-5, 6-4.
The Bulldogs had a pair of losses in the
second round of the 'C' Singles Draw. Sophomore Joel Samaha lost 7-6
(4), 4-6, 6-1 to Princeton's Matt Spindler. Sophomore Erik Blumenkranz also
lost in three sets.
Princeton's Charlie Brosens defeated Blumenkranz 4-6, 6-4,
6-4.
In the 'D' Singles Draw, No. 2
seed freshman Daniel Hoffman advanced to the finals with two
victories Saturday.
He defeated Princeton's Michael Lin 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 in the
quarterfinals before defeating No. 3 seed Nathaniel Gery of
Columbia 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Matt Schimmel advanced to the finals of
the 'E' Singles Draw with two victories Saturday. Schimmel defeated Jared
Karson of Cornell 7-5, 6-3 before defeating Matt Siow of Princeton
in the semifinals 6-4, 6-2.
