Paul Nelson Posts Double-Double For Bulldogs
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Zack Rosen scored 27 points and handed out
five assists to lead Penn to an 81-69 Ivy League victory over Yale
before a crowd of 4,738 at the Palestra. The Quakers also got a
pair of double-doubles en route to the win. Dan Monckton had 18
points and 12 rebounds and Jack Eggleston added 13 points and 10
rebounds. Alex Zampier paced the Bulldogs with 21 points.
Yale (10-17, 4-6 Ivy) cut an eight-point halftime deficit to
five on two Michael Sands free throws with 11:38 left. The Quakers
missed three shots on their next possession but grabbed the
offensive rebound each time. Monckton finally made the Bulldogs pay
when he knocked down a three-pointer. Penn then scored the next
nine points on three three-pointers to go ahead by 17, 67-50. Yale
never got closer than 12 the rest of the way.
"That's going to change the game," said Joel E. Smilow, Class of
1954 Head Coach of Men's Basketball James Jones of the Quakers'
four straight three-pointers. "We were fighting up hill the rest of
the way."
Penn, which made only 1-of-18 treys in the first meeting between
the teams in New Haven, was 7-of-19 from beyond the arc on
Saturday.
"They made shots," Jones said.

including 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Sands scored 16 points for the Bulldogs, and Paul Nelson posted
his third double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and
grabbing 10 rebounds in 26 minutes. Porter Braswell had nine
points, and Raffi Mantilla added six.
Yale started strong, scoring the first six points. Penn, though,
got right back in the game and took its first lead on Mike
Howlett's jumper midway through the first half. The score was tied
at 30 with 5:30 remaining, but the Quakers outscored the Bulldogs
15-7 to take a 45-37 lead at the intermission.
Penn (5-18, 4-5 Ivy) shot 54.8 percent from the field in the
opening 20 minutes.
