PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Despite producing its
highest team score of the season, a 191.000, the Yale gymnastics
team finished fourth at a quad meet hosted by Rutgers on Saturday.
Towson edged Bridgeport 193.400-193.200 for first place, while
Rutgers finished third with a score of 192.675. Despite the loss,
however, there were plenty of highlights for the Bulldogs, as Yale
gymnasts won two events and the all-around competition.
On the vault, Yale had its best day of the year, with two
gymnasts breaking 9.700 and three others setting career records.
Freshman Tara Feld led the way for Yale, finishing sixth with a
score of 9.775. Shortly behind was senior Brigitte Kivisto, who
placed ninth with a 9.725. Senior Allison Mak scored a 9.575,
finishing 15th. Freshman Stephanie Goldstein, junior
Sherry Yang, and freshman Chelsea Savit scored a 9.450, a 9.350,
and a 9.200 respectively, all career bests.
On the uneven parallel bars, Kivisto set a career record,
placing third with a 9.800, while fellow senior Mak also had her
best score of the year, a 9.425. Two other Yale gymnasts broke
9.000, with Goldstein scoring a 9.250 and freshman Lindsay Andsager
scoring a 9.075.
Yale also had its highest score of the year on the balance beam,
with Mak leading the way with a first-place 9.825, tying her best
score of the year. Feld and Kivisto tied for sixth with
9.675's, while Goldstein finished 13th with a
career-record 9.575. Yang had her highest score of the season on
the beam, a 9.375.
The Bulldogs' best event of the day was the floor
exercise, with all six Yale gymnasts tying or bettering their
career bests. Kivisto tied for first with a 9.875, while Feld tied
for fourth with a 9.850. Goldstein and sophomore Talis Trevino both
scored 9.650's, and Yang scored a 9.550. Savit, competing in
only the second meet of her career, scored a 9.250.
Kivisto won the all-around competition with a career-best score
of 39.075, topping Towson's Alise McDonald by just .025
points. Goldstein also produced a career record, placing eighth
with a 37.925. Feld finished ninth with a 37.850.
The Bulldogs resume competition with a quad meet at Maryland at
4:00 p.m. next Saturday, Mar. 20.
