NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior Gigi Sabatini has been elected captain of the 2025-26 Yale gymnastics team as announced by head coach Andy Leis. Sabatini was selected following a team vote.

Sabatini leads the Bulldogs into their 53rd season. She is part of a senior class that includes teammates Megan Brueck, Meredith Donovan, Lauren Holt, and Hana Strause. 

"I feel honored to have been elected captain," Sabatini said. "This team is full of such incredible women so it means the world that they put their trust in me. I am grateful and excited to work together with my class towards achieving our goals and carrying on the YGT legacy."

Sabatini has been an integral part of YGT since competing as a first year in 2023. She has participated in 33-of-35 meets over the past three seasons as an all-around competitor. Sabatini is a six-time All-GEC gymnast, adding accolades twice in all-around and vault, and once on floor and beam. She has also excelled in the classroom as a three-time GEC Scholar Athlete. 

"I am extremely excited for Gigi to lead Yale gymnastics for the upcoming season as our team captain," Leis said. "Gigi's dedication, leadership, and work ethic through her first three seasons has been invaluable and has helped elevate our program. She is invested in the team's success, and that team first mentality will be instrumental once again in building off our past two record breaking seasons."

The Bulldogs are coming off their third straight runner-up finish at the GEC Championships. The team recorded its fourth-highest National Qualifying Score in program history (194.305). 

"I am fully confident and excited that Gigi, along with the entire senior class, will continue the legacy of Yale Gymnastics this year," Leis said. "YGT 53 is motivated and I can't wait to get to work with this group."
