CHARLESTON, S.C. — Nearly 900 miles away
from the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, the Yale
men's tennis team has established a suitable home away from
home on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. The Bulldogs
earned a victory on the courts of the Earle Tennis Center for the
second consecutive day, besting Winthrop on Sunday afternoon by a
score of 4-3. Yale, winner of its last seven matches, now owns a
9-3 record in the spring season.
Though the tandem of Connor Dawson and Daniel Hoffman picked up
a win for the Elis to start the day at No. 3 doubles, it was the
Eagles who grabbed the doubles point with victories in the top two
spots.
Yale rallied in singles competition, however, with No. 1 Marc
Powers and No. 2 John Haung both winning in straight sets. No. 4
Hoffman and No. 5 Dawson each won their singles matches in three
sets to clinch the victory for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will now travel from Charleston to Greenville, S.C.
to challenge Furman on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Yale will also play at
USC Upstate on Tuesday before return to the Elm City for a
three-match homestand beginning on March 21 against Boston College.
