SPRINGFIELD, MASS. - The Yale gymnastics team
topped Springfield and Rhode Island College this afternoon in a
dominant fashion, scoring a season-high 189.950. Springfield was
second and Rhode Island College third with scores of 182.625 and
159.625 respectively. Bulldog gymnasts took the top two places in
every event as well as the top three places in the all-around
competition.
Freshman Tara Feld and senior Brigitte Kivisto took first and
second places respectively on the vault, earning respective scores
of 9.750 and 9.675. Senior Allison Mak finished fourth with a
9.475. Freshman Stephanie Goldstein and sophomore Talis Trevino
also broke 9.000, with Goldstein scoring a 9.325 and Trevino
scoring a 9.100. Freshman Chelsea Savit made her career debut in
the event, scoring an 8.750.
On the uneven parallel bars, Yale produced its highest
collective score of the season, a 47.325, with five Bulldogs
occupying the first five places. Freshman Lindsay Andsager won the
event with a 9.750, tying her career record. Kivisto finished
second with a 9.675 and Feld third with a 9.575. Goldstein earned a
9.200, while Mak scored a 9.175.
Brigitte Kivisto placed first on the balance beam, scoring a
9.825, the highest score of her four-year career. Mak finished in
second place with a 9.675. Goldstein, like Kivisto, produced a
career record, placing third with a 9.525. Junior Sherry Yang and
Feld finished sixth and seventh with a 9.200 and an 8.875
respectively. Sophomore Mia Yabut placed 11th, scoring an 8.525 in
her career debut.
As usual, the Bulldogs' strongest event was the floor
exercise. Kivisto won the event with a 9.850, with Feld placing
second with a 9.750. Trevino placed third with a 9.625, while
Goldstein finished shortly behind with a 9.600. Yang scored a
9.450, finishing seventh. Savit, making her career debut in the
floor exercise, scored a 9.025.
Yale took the top three spots in the all-around competition,
with two Yale gymnasts earning career-bests. Kivisto placed first
with a career-record 38.975, while Feld finished second with a
37.950. Goldstein placed third with a career-best 37.650.
The Bulldogs resume competition with a three-way meet at Rutgers
with Towson at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday, Mar. 13.
