CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 64 Harvard ended
No. 67 Yale's hopes of an Ivy League Title and an automatic bid to
the NCAA Tournament Sunday by defeating the Bulldogs 4-3 at Harvard
University. The loss dropped Yale to 15-8 overall and 4-2 in
the Ivy League.
The Bulldogs started off the day by dropping the doubles point
as the Crimson won two of three doubles matches. The Yale
doubles team of freshman Daniel Hoffman and freshman John Huang won
8-3 at No. 3 doubles, but Harvard took the other two doubles
matches.
While Harvard won No. 4 and No. 6 singles in straight sets, Yale
managed to grab a straight set victory at No. 5 singles.
Senior captain Connor Dawson, bothered my injury much of the year,
rolled to a 6-4, 6-4 win.
With three matches going to third sets, Yale had to find a way
to win all three. Harvard was too much though and won at No.
3 singles.
Freshman Marc Powers improved to 6-0 in Ivy League match play
with a 7-6 (1), 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Playing No. 2
singles, Huang battled to a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win.
But the Bulldogs fell 4-3 to the Crimson. With No. 46
Columbia's 6-1 win over Princeton Sunday, Columbia clinched the
outright Ivy League Title and the automatic bid to the NCAA
Championship for the second straight year.
Yale will look to finish it season with a win and a 5-2 Ivy
League record when it takes on Brown Saturday.
