Thalman Finishes With Four Saves For
Bulldogs
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The first day of the Brown Classic
proved to be frustrating for the Yale men's soccer team. The
Bulldogs had a couple of opportunities to score first against
Hofstra, but instead it was the Pride that got the only goal of the
game to escape with a 1-0 victory at Stevenson Field.
After a scoreless first half, it looked like Yale would get on
the board midway through the second half, but Milan Tica's shot hit the post. Hofstra (2-2) then gained
possession, moved down the field and scored. Chris Griebsch did the
honors when he fired a shot from the top of the box into the lower
right corner. The goal was unassisted.
Yale (0-3) worked hard to try and tie it. Peter Jacobson had a chance just after Griebsch's goal but
his shot went wide. A few minutes later, Tica got off another shot,
but Hofstra goalkeeper Greg Cumpstone made the save.
Cumpstone stopped three shots in the game to record his 12th
career shutout, moving him alone into third place on Hofstra's
career list. Bobby Thalman made four saves for the
Bulldogs.
Yale had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks, while the Pride outshot the
Bulldogs 19-11.
Yale returns to Providence to meet South Carolina on the second
day of the Brown Classic on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for noon.
