Stannard Announces Class of 2030

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of Yale men's soccer, will welcome a strong Class of 2030 to campus this fall. The seven-member class includes athletes from four different states and three countries.

"I am extremely excited about this incoming group," Stannard said. "My staff has done a great job over the past couple of years to identify a large pool of high-quality players and high caliber young men that are excited and honored to wear the Yale jersey. Time will tell, but I really think they have a chance to be in the conversation as one of the best recruiting classes in my tenure."

"Our group from last year made an immediate impact and I expect this incoming group to really elevate our entire team and push our current group in every positional category, which is what any ambitious and competitive environment should have," Stannard said.

Here is a look at the class of 2030:

3 Questions for Clamp
Biggest Soccer Influence? "My biggest soccer influence has always been my dad. Born in England and having played soccer all his life, he has inspired my passion for soccer. He has been my number one supporter ever since I could kick a ball, and I still watch games and kick around with him to this day. He comes to watch every game I play, and always pushes me to be better with motivating words and honest feedback. He has been there for me through the highs and lows of my soccer career, and supported me throughout my recruiting process. My dad is my greatest coach, and he taught me the importance of hard work, humility, and resilience both on and off the pitch."
Do you have a hero or idol? "A major sporting idol of mine is Son Heung-min. Since I am half Korean, the greatest Korean player of all time has always been a huge inspiration to me. Son's amazing finishing and footwork are a joy to watch, and his goal-scoring record is extraordinary; however, what I look up to most is his character. He is renowned as a "player with no haters" for good reason–he is one of the classiest and most humble players in world football, and always plays with a smile on his face. Even more importantly, though, his unmatched work ethic shows that greatness comes from putting in the extra effort and always believing in yourself, a mentality I try to replicate in my own game."
Why Yale? "Yale has always been a dream school of mine because of its unique opportunity to pursue both academics and athletics at the highest level. I am excited to compete for Ivy League championships while earning a top degree and making amazing connections. The community at Yale is unlike any other, and the energy and mentality of the team and coaching staff will help me thrive both on and off the field."

Stannard on Clamp: "Keegan is someone we looked at in his senior year but after he decided to take a gap year, we continued to stay in touch. It really wasn't until late in the process of this recruiting class that we felt like Keegan could be a good fit.  After attending our ID camp in the winter, Keegan stood out as someone that was versatile enough to play as an outside back as well as anywhere in the midfield, which is exactly what we needed in our final spot. He is a technical and intelligent player that also has the competitive edge that is necessary to compete at this level."

Dijon Fosu
Midfielder
6-1, 185 lbs
Orlando, FL
Our Lady of Good Counsel High School
Baltimore Armour

High School: Second Team All-Conference…Honorable Mention All-Conference
Academic Honors: Religious Achievement Award…Science Student of the Month…World Language Student of the Month
Club: Won MLS Next Flex group in 2025 and 2026

3 Questions for Fosu
Biggest Soccer Influence? "My biggest soccer influence is Bukayo Saka because he provides the best example of overcoming adversity that I've ever seen from an athlete. Being so young and a black athlete, I relate to him and really admire the way he's been able to recover from such a shattering moment and period of time. Now, he's easily one of the best wingers in the world and that all came from his resilience. I also respect that he still remains humble even after climbing to the top."
Do you have a hero or idol? "My idols are my parents. They have shown how far discipline really goes. They are easily the most hardworking people that I've ever met and I appreciate all of their sacrifices."
Why Yale? "I selected Yale because I was drawn to the idea of diverse people with a wide range of talents learning from and challenging one another. With the reputation Yale has upheld, I know it is full of ambitious and curious people, and the thought of that excites me."

Stannard on Fosu: "Dijon is one of the top players in the country in his position and was recruited by several top programs. He reminds me a lot of one of the best players in our program over the past 10 years, Enzo Okpoye.  Dijon is primarily a center midfielder right now but has also played as a central defender. He is an excellent ball-winner, quality passer, and has a commanding physical and competitive presence on the pitch. His club, Baltimore Armour, always does a great job of preparing players for the transition to college soccer."

Danny Grumann
Defender
6-2, 175 lbs
San Marcos, CA
San Marcos High School
City SC San Diego, MLS Next

Academic Honors: 4x Knights Silver Honor Roll
Club: MLS Next Team Captain

3 Questions for Grumann
Biggest Soccer Influence? "My dad has been the biggest influence on my soccer journey. He was my first coach and has supported me every step of the way. He has pushed me to always be my best and has always been my biggest supporter."
Do you have a hero or idol? "My mom is my idol and has had the biggest impact on my life. She is the hardest working person I know and I've always tried to follow her example. She has taught me about the importance of family and loyalty."
Why Yale? "I chose Yale because of the connection I developed with the coaching staff and the exceptional balance it offers between athletics and academics. I loved the athletic facilities and when I first visited campus I instantly knew it was the right fit for me."

Stannard on Grumann: "Danny is someone who came to our ID camp late in the process of his senior year and I was really impressed with him but wasn't able to offer a spot for that year.  Fortunately, Danny and his family were willing to do a gap year and continue to grow and develop on and off the field this past year while playing with older players.  He will immediately be in the top three pure athletes in our team. He is a strong 1v1 defender and attacks very well down the flank gliding by players with ease and putting good crosses into the box."

David Leidl
Defender
6-4, 180 lbs
Prague, Czech Republic
Park Lane International School
FK Dukla Praha

Academic Honors: Scored in top 0.2% at UKMT Math Challenge…Qualified for ISMTF Junior Math Competition…Selected for internship at Spolumajitele a.s.
Club: Member of the Czech National Team (U17-U19)…Team Captain

3 Questions for Leidl
Biggest Soccer Influence? "In a modern world of systems and structure on the pitch, only a few entertain with a flair and freedom that make little kids fall in love with the sport. For me, that was Neymar - the last of his kind."
Do you have an hero or idol? "Michael Jordan is a walking representation of passion and dedication – the two ingredients that feature in every success story."
Why Yale? "I have lived a two-sided life – one on the soccer field with aspirations that any other soccer fanatic would have, and the other in a pursuit of a top economical academic career. Yale stands out as the very special place where my two worlds – of academics and soccer – collide, in the best way possible."

Stannard on Leidl: "David is another player that attended our winter ID camp and sealed my decision to offer. He is someone I have known about the past couple of years from previous camps but was harder to see consistently due to him living in Prague. He had also decided to take a gap year and I think this paid huge dividends for his development. He is a physical presence and moves well for his size.  He brings a special quality of being a left-footed center back that has equal qualities as a strong defender that is also comfortable and confident on the ball. David has been in a professional environment and brings a great competitive edge and maturity to a very important position."

Ethan Otterberg
Forward
5-9, 155 lbs
Hinsdale, IL
Hinsdale Central High School
Sockers FC

Academic Honors: Graduated Magna Cum Laude…National Honor Society…Illinois State Scholar…Young Scholar Award
Club: Ranked ninth-best player in Midwest (TopDrawerSoccer)…Ranked 191st nationally…Selected to play in National Academy Championship All-Star game…Invited to USA Youth National Team Identification Center

3 Questions for Otterberg
Biggest Soccer Influence? "My biggest soccer influence has been my U13 coach, Dema Kovalenko. While he has been a significant influence on my style of play and work rate, he has also been someone that I look up to. When he was young, he immigrated to the US from Ukraine. He was extremely poor and came here without his parents. Alone in a foreign country, Dema trained hard and excelled in soccer, taking Indiana University to a championship. He left college early and was drafted into the MLS where his career continued for 12 years."
Do you have a hero or idol? "As my coach for two years, Dema shaped me in my developmental period as an athlete. He saw potential in me and pushed me until failure every single day. I feel as though I 'grew up' as a player underneath him. He demanded excellence from me: I played up a year; I did personal training with him; I did extra work at practice; His disappointment was a player who lacked effort. At the slightest sense of slowing down, he was in my face screaming. He saw my desire and innate ability, and he drew it out of me in his own, special way. It did not matter how much I ran before, or how long I was playing, if I slowed down, it was on me. I matured as a player because of him. I understood accountability and developed my internal locus of control. My actions determine every outcome, whether good or bad. That has been my mentality throughout my entire athletic career, but also throughout my life. Dema's life story is inspiring. Coming to the US alone and poor, he woke up motivated to improve, to push himself, and to win. Most importantly, he tells his story with optimism rather than victimization. He took responsibility for his own success and I idolize that mentality."
Why Yale? "Meeting the coaches, staying with the players, and visiting the school taught me what the YMS family is. A graduate of the soccer team told me that 'The Y never comes off' and I want to be a part of that culture."

Stannard on Otterberg: "Ethan is another player we really liked that was late in the 2025 cycle and he was willing to take a gap year to continue to grow and develop even further before coming to us this fall. Ethan is a player that has the attributes to plug into any team and any style in order to help the team win.  He is extremely technical and confident in tight spaces but also has a fantastic engine to cover a lot of ground and do the dirty work. He is fairly two-footed and has a knack for scoring goals from distance.  Ethan plays for one of the most competitive and historic youth clubs in the country, Sockers FC, and has also received some incredible personalized training with Kyle Knotek, a former player I coached at Northern Illinois."

David Pousseu
Forward
5-9, 165 lbs
Saugus, MA
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School/Center of Excellence NE
United MLS Next

Academic Honors: High honor roll all four years…Premio de Oro on the National Spanish Exam…Maxima Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam…National Honors Society
Club: Scored 36 goals in three season at MLS Next

3 Questions for Pousseu
Biggest Soccer Influence? "My older Cousin, Dominique. He trained me and my brother since we were kids and has taught us so much. He always pushed us to our limits and I will always be grateful."
Do you have a hero or idol? "Jesus Christ."
Why Yale? "I picked Yale because it is the pinnacle of education worldwide and has a network that can last a lifetime. I loved the culture that YMS is building, which made it felt natural for me to come here."

Stannard on Pousseu: "David is someone we fortunately found late in the process, but he still had a lot of interest from our Ivy competitors. After attending one of our ID camps, we knew he is someone that had huge potential to help our attack in a variety of ways.  He is a dynamic attacking player that can play as a central striker or out wide. He is two-footed which makes him very unpredictable and has excellent quickness and agility to create his own shot or unbalance the opposing team to create for others. What impresses me even more about David is his willingness to work defensively and his competitive tenacity. Coming from Seacoast and the Center of Excellence project, he will be well-prepared for the college game."

Felix Wessels
Goalkeeper
6-3, 176 lbs
Osnabrück, Germany
Ratsgymnasium Osnabrück
VfL Osnabrück

Academic Honors: Winner of the Osnabrück Mathematics Olympiad
Club: Started five games in the U19 Youth Bundesliga

3 Questions for Fosu
Biggest Soccer Influence? "Manuel Neuer. Watching his performances at the 2014 World Cup were my first real memories of how much impact a goalkeeper can have. Meeting him after the opening match of Euro 2024 made that admiration even stronger."
Do you have a hero or idol? "My idol is my father. He constantly pushes me beyond my limits and has supported me through countless extra training sessions. Through his coaching, discipline, and belief in me, he shaped both my mentality and my development as a goalkeeper."
Why Yale? "I selected Yale because it uniquely allows me to combine top-level soccer with one of the strongest academic environments in the world. Yale's commitment to excellence on and off the field makes it the ideal place for my growth as both a student and an athlete."

Stannard on Wessels: "Felix is someone that caught our eye through e-mails and video exchange that ended up attending our winter ID camp. After seeing him in person and having the opportunity to watch him train and get to know him better, we were convinced he could help elevate our goalkeeping group. He is technically and tactically excellent but what stood out the most was his elite focus and consistency in his training mentality. He does all the "little" things well which is what you want most from that position. Like any young goalkeeper, he will need to adjust as quickly as he can to the speed and physicality of the college game, but I have no doubt his level of preparation and mentality will push our current GK group from day one."

The 2026 Bulldogs will return over a dozen players with collegiate experience in addition to the strong Class of 2030.
