Hoffman Goes 3-0 in Singles
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Yale men's tennis team ended its three-match trip to California on a high note Monday morning, winning 5-2 at San Francisco. The Bulldogs have now won four of their last six matches.
Yale (8-5) won the doubles point for the fifth time in six matches, sweeping the three doubles matches. At No. 1, juniors Daniel Hoffman and Marc Powers improved to 8-2 in the spring with an 8-3 win. At No. 2, senior captain Erik Blumenkranz teamed with classmate Joel Samaha for an 8-5 win, evening their spring record at 4-4. At No. 3, sophomore Patrick Chase and junior John Huang rebounded nicely after their three-match winning streak was snapped with a loss at No. 10 Stanford Saturday. Their 8-2 win represented their biggest margin of victory yet this season.
Hoffman continued to shine in his home state with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. He went 3-0 on the trip, and is now riding a six-match winning streak. Huang and Blumenkranz won in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Freshman Zachary Krumholz improved to 6-1 in the spring with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4) win at No. 6.
San Francisco (2-8) got three-set wins at the No. 1 spot from No. 110-ranked Thai Tu and at the No. 5 spot from Bernardo Saraiva.
Yale is now off until Mar. 24, when the Bulldogs play in the Army Tournament.
