Finke and Shklover Produce Impressive Displays
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The middle day of the Bulldog Invitational saw members of the Yale women's tennis team take on players mostly from William & Mary. Playing indoors at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center, the Bulldogs won four doubles encounters and three singles matches, with a pair of freshman generating standout performances.
Just like on Friday against Pitt, the Yale duo of junior Madeleine Hamilton and freshman Valerie Shklover were involved in the most tightly contested doubles match of the matchup. Taking on Maria Groener and Olivia Thaler of William & Mary, Hamilton and Shklover stood strong in the decisive tiebreaker to record the 8-7(4) victory. Freshman Carol Finke and sophomore Sherry Li also posted an 8-4 win over the William & Mary tandem of Julia Casselberry and Mélanie Roy. In cross-over action, sophomore Caroline Lynch teamed up with freshman Sunday Swett, who enjoyed a thrilling collegiate debut in singles on Friday, to notch a win over Brown's duo of Olivia Hsu and Victoria Traynor. Junior Courtney Amos and freshman Elizabeth Zordani gave Yale its fourth doubles victory of the day with an 8-2 win over Lindsey Kayati and Lee Levy of Rutgers.
Finke and Shklover were the Bulldogs' repeat winners on the day, with both excelling in singles play, albeit in very different ways. Finke had minimal trouble in dispatching Hsu 6-0, 6-1. Shklover, meanwhile, withstood a comeback bid from Roy to claim a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win. Senior captain Hanna Yu also posted a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Casselberry.

The final day of the Bulldog Invitational will feature Yale's players in competition against Rutgers. The Bulldogs' matches will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the indoor courts of the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
