Yale Third at IGI Chicago Style Meet at Navy Pier

CHICAGO - The Yale gymnastics team finished third with a score of 190.750 at Friday's IGI Chicago Style Meet at Navy Pier. Iowa State (194.950) finished first, and Northern Illinois (194.475) was third. The team score is an improvement from last weekend in the dual meet against Springfield College and it marks yet another score over 190.000 for the Bulldogs this season. 

Freshman Anna Merkuryev and sophomore Anella Anderson were the sole all-around competitors on the day for Yale with a total scores of 37.925 and 37.650, respectively. Anna put up solid performances on all four apparatu to earn a third place finish. While Anderson's score was a career-best in the all-around. 

On vault, Merkuryev led the way with a career-high 9.750. Junior Camilla Opperman was the next best on the event for the Bulldogs with a 9.600. Anderson, Katherine Lucas and Joyce Li all brought in scores of 9.450. Allison Bushman rounded out the event for Yale with a score of 8.975. 

The uneven bars was next up for the Bulldogs and it was an event full of season and career-high scores. Li sat atop the leaderboard on the Bulldogs' roster, scoring a season-best score of 9.775. Tatiana Winkelman also performed a strong routine to earn a career-high mark of 9.725. Captain Morgan Traina made her first appearance of the meet, scoring 9.625. Bushman was close behind with a mark of 9.600. Merkuryev and Anderson also competed on bars, scoring 9.600 and 9.025. 

On the balance beam, Brittney Sooksengdao led the way with a strong score of 9.700. Winkelman was the lead-off gymnast of the beam for the Bulldogs, scoring 9.425. Merkuryev was up next, delivering a performance that earned her a score of 9.050. Li, Anderson and Traina finished off the beam for Yale, scoring 8.900, 9.475 and 9.225. 

Floor exercise was the last event of the meet for the Bulldogs. Their team score of 47.875 is a season-best. Lucas and Anderson both scored 9.700 on the apparatus, which tied a season high for Lucas and was a career-high for Anderson. Merkuryev also received a career-high on floor (9.550). Sooksengdao, Bushman and Opperman also were in the floor exercise lineup (9.575, 9.350 and 9.325). 

Up next for the Yale women's gymanstics teams is the all important Ivy Classic, hosted by Penn Feb. 22.
