Andrienko, Doehler, Hagermoser, Lu and Svenning Post Wins  

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In the first match of its weekend doubleheader in Virginia, the Yale men's tennis team emerged victorious in a tough battle against William & Mary, ending the latter's four-match winning streak.  After narrowly securing the doubles point, the Bulldogs added three wins in singles play to seal the 4-2 victory.

The clash for the doubles point came down to the wire as Yale and William & Mary scored 6-3 victories at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles, respectively.  At the No. 3 spot, the sophomore duo of Alex Hagermoser and Tyler Lu defeated Addison Appleby and Damon Niquet.  Turning the match in favor of the Elis was the freshman tandem of Fedor Andrienko and Stefan Doehler.  The Yale pair, playing at No. 2 doubles, overcame Christian Cargill and Scott Huang in a tiebreaker by a final score of 7-6(5).

Singles turned out to be a tense affair as well, as William & Mary managed to notch two points before the Bulldogs were able to complete the overall win.  At No. 1 singles, Lu showed good form in a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Cargill.  At the No. 3 position, junior Martin Svenning upended Appleby 7-6, 6-2.  In the match at No. 5 singles, Doehler stood his ground to claim a pivotal 6-4, 7-6(7) victory.

Yale will be aiming to end another winning streak on Sunday when it meets Old Dominion on the latter's home turf at 10:00 a.m.  Old Dominion has enjoyed a 6-0 start to the 2015 season.
