No. 61 Old Dominion Scores 6-1 Win over Yale

Doehler Mounts Comeback to Record Lone Bulldog Singles Victory; Andrienko and Doehler Win in Doubles

NORFOLK, Va. – The Yale men's tennis will be returning from its weekend trip in Virginia with mixed results, as the squad fell to No. 61 Old Dominion one day after defeating William & Mary.  Old Dominion won the doubles point and then secured the 6-1 triumph in singles play, though two Yale freshmen offered a bright spot for the Elis.

Old Dominion came out of the blocks strong, as its No. 3 doubles team dismissed the Bulldog sophomore duo of Alex Hagermoser and Photos Photiades, 6-2.  The Big Blue then followed up this win with a victory at No. 1 singles, and in doing so secured the doubles point and the momentum.  Freshmen Fedor Andrienko and Stefan Doehler nonetheless showed once again that they will be a doubles force both for the remainder of the season and in future seasons.  They overcame the Old Dominion tandem of Theophile Lanthiez and Carlos Lopez Villa 6-3 to notch their seventh win of the season together (against only one loss).

The Bulldogs were unable to stage a successful comeback in singles, as Old Dominion scored five wins.  Junior Martin Svenning played a tough marathon match at No. 2 singles against Adam Moundir, but ultimately came up short in the final set.  Doehler, on the other hand, recovered from dropping the first set of his match at No. 4 singles to claim a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 comeback win against Lanthiez.  This marks Doehler's seventh singles victory of the season (against only two losses).

Full results from Sunday's match against Old Dominion can be found below.

Yale's next competitive outing will take place at home in two weeks' time.  The Elis will host Fairleigh Dickinson, Marist and Stony Brook in an annual two-day event starting on Mar. 7.
