Bulldogs to Play Brown on Saturday
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Yale women's tennis team lost its opening match at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship to Cornell on Friday. Playing at their opponent's Reis Tennis Center, the Bulldogs ceded the doubles point and were unable to recover in singles play, as Cornell completed a 4-0 victory.
The Big Red's advance began immediately in doubles play as the host squad's top two doubles teams scored wins over their Yale opponents. Cornell did not let the advantage slip once the match shifted to singles. Cornell picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, while the team's No. 1 player, Dena Tanenbaum, defeated No. 96-ranked senior captain Hanna Yu, 6-2, 7-6(2).
The remaining singles matches did not finish, but at the time Cornell clinched the victory, junior Courtney Amos had split sets with her Cornell opponent at No. 2 singles, while freshman Valerie Shklover had already entered a third set against her opponent at No. 6 singles after claiming a 6-0 first set.
