Upperclassmen Shine on Final Day of USAG Nationals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- On the final day of competition at the USAG Collegiate Nationals, Yale had three upperclassmen qualify to compete in individual event finals: seniors Joyce Li and Morgan Traina and junior Camilla Opperman.

Li and Traina qualified to compete on the uneven bars. Both gymnasts have excelled in their senior season on the event. Traina finished seventh (9.750) with Li right behind in eighth (9.725). The competition field was tough, with only .200 separating all 11 gymnasts.

Opperman was the sole Bulldog to qualify in the floor exercise. She has proven that the event is her specialty, winning the ECAC title earlier in 2015. She scored 9.750 to finish in a tie for 10th place.  All three gymnasts earned All-American honors by competing in the individual event finals.

USA Gymnastics also named six Yale gymnasts scholar athletes at the conclusion of competition. Li, Opperman, Traina, Brianna Chrisman, Brittney Sooksengdao and Tatiana Winkelman were honored for their outstanding performances in the classroom as well as on the competition floor.
