Yale's Last Two Tournament Players, Doehler and Hagermoser, Narrowly Lose Semifinal Match
PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Yale men's tennis team made its exit from the ITA Northeast Regionals on Monday, with Yale's final two players in the tournament – Stefan Doehler and Alex Hagermoser – falling in the semifinals of the doubles draw. The veteran pairing, who had won four straight matches to reach Monday's semifinal, met their match in Columbia's Richard and Victor Pham. Although the match was tight from start to finish with few service breaks, the opposing team ultimately pulled away in both sets to secure a 7-5, 6-4 win.
Despite Monday's result, Doehler and Hagermoser can take pride in reaching the semifinals of such a prestigious event, which featured the Northeast region's very best doubles teams. The two players showed impressive flashes of chemistry over the past week, and stand a strong chance of playing as a starting combination for the Elis in the spring season.
As a team, the Bulldogs made an impression at the ITA Regionals, with a number of players making runs into the tournament's final days. This positive performance – especially the high-quality play of freshmen Ryan Cheng, Andrew Heller, and Dylan King – not only closes the fall season on a high note, but also sets the stage for a promising spring campaign. After a few months off, the Elis will next take the court on Jan. 16 for a home scrimmage against Brown.
