Finke Victorious at Singles and Doubles
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In its second match of the Ivy season, the Yale women's tennis team was defeated by No. 59 Princeton 5-2 on Saturday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Although the Bulldogs took the doubles point, they faced formidable opponents in Princeton's singles line-up. Nevertheless, sophomore Carol Finke emerged victorious in her singles match, recording her second win of the day after her victory at doubles with senior captain Ree Ree Li.
The Bulldogs rebounded from Friday's doubles losses to Penn. No. 1 pair of senior Madeleine Hamilton and junior Tina Jiang played a close match with Amanda Muliawan and Dorothy Tang. While the two teams were level throughout most of the set, Hamilton and Jiang showed resilience in triumphing 7-4 in the tiebreak, securing the win 7-6(4). Li and Finke had a less nerve-racking experience, defeating Katrine Steffensen and Emily Hahn 6-4 to secure the doubles point.
Although the Bulldogs notched the first point, they faced tough competition in the singles match-ups against the Tigers. Finke, however, defeated Hahn at No. 6 singles. After claiming the first set 7-5, Finke looked on her way to victory before Hahn came back in the second to win it 6-2. Despite the setback, Finke was calm and collected in her response, dropping only one game in the last set to win the match 7-5, 2-6, 6-1. Senior Courtney Amos also fought through a three-set match. Amos managed to push Nicole Kalhorn to the third set, winning 6-2 in the second after Kalhorn took the first 6-3. In the end, Kalhorn defeated Amos 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Yale will be on the road next weekend, first traveling to New York to compete against Columbia on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. before going to Ithaca to play against Cornell on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
