New Haven, Conn. – Junior Will Bernstein shot a one-under 139 on Saturday to capture the individual title and propel the Yale men's golf team to the team championship at the 2017 Yale Invitational. Bernstein was joined in the top five by fellow teammates sophomore James Nicholas, who finished third, as well as senior captain Li Wang who placed fifth in the event hosted at The Course at Yale.
Yale (569) defeated second-place Drexel (589) and Penn (589) by a wide margin of 20 strokes and also prevalied over Ivy League opponents Cornell (591) and Brown (603) after shooting a 9-over-par, 284–285 for the 36-hole competition. The Bulldogs posted the best scores of any teams in both rounds to notch their first tournament victory since the 2015 Princeton Invitational.
Additionally for the Elis senior Jonathan Lai finished in ninth with his five-over 135 and Eoin Leonard finished in a tie for 19th with his nine-over 139. Mike Graboyes of Cornell and Sean Byrne of St. John's also placed in second and fourth among all players.
